Still Here
Langston Hughes

I been scarred and battered
My hopes the wind done scattered
Snow has friz me
Sun has baked me
Looks like between 'em
they done tried to make me
Stop laughin'
stop lovin'
stop livin'
But I don't care
I'm still here

  1. Thank you for speaking at Howell HS on Friday. As a teacher, I thought it was incredible and the students are excited. Your portrayal of Hector also brought up some dark memories, from a former student that took her life. I only wish she would have emailed, texted, called (she had my numbers/info).
Thank you again for making a difference.

  5. You came to my school today and I would just like to say that your performance made me laugh hysterically, cry like a baby and, most importantly, feel understood. I admire you a great deal, Mr. Fowlin. I regret that I did not get the chance to talk to you (or get a hug.) I wish you and your loved ones well.

  7. You came to our school yesterday and that was a very powerful thing. Today, several people were reciting that poem and nobody sat alone in the cafeteria; nobody frowned all day; nobody picked on anyone. We are no longer zebras. We are now a dog pack. We may not be able to fight it off, but we will defiantly risk our lives to do so.

  8. You did a performance at my school last night, and you were awesome. I had to find your website to thank you. This yea has been really hard with my family and being home, while it was what my family needed was not where i wanted to be most of the time. Last night your performance finally gave me the courage to talk to someone about what I'm going through and it feels so great to finally talk about.

  10. thank you very much for visiting LHS creating an impact on our lives. thank you for opening our eyes to more serious situations & how we can help others by just smiling(: however; when it came down to something serious, you grabbed our attention with your comedic ways. hope to see you next year! - Victoria G. & Lexus L.

  12. I am still here. Yes that is very true. And I thank everyone around me including you for that fact. You have truly inspired me to be better and have given me the strength I needed to continue. My friend always tells me, when suffering knocks; God always leaves another door open for you to endure it, to overcome the temptation to give up. There is a way out. I have found that this door is most commonly in the love of others and today, I found it in you. You talked to us from your heart, which is something I find very uncommon nowadays. People are talking faced to face, computer to computer, text to text and it's very unlikely that both peoples' hearts are open long enough to actually have a true conversation. Yet, you have done exactly that. You have been a much unexpected blessing in my life and I've witnessed today that how one person could touch the lives of many. I truly believe that some people are born great and some people achieve greatness throughout their lifetime. But there are those who are great because they inspire the greatness in others to emerge for the bottom of their souls, which cries out like a free bird. Mr. Fowlin, you are a great person. Thank you so much for your time, your beautiful compassion and one of the most inspiring messages I have ever received in my life.
