This is for all of us. We are so similar in our differences. We are together on this journey.

From a student who saw me a couple of years ago....
- Jimbob Walter G-DizzleHey Dr. Fowlin. My name is Walter. I was the youth that introduced you at the Youth Conference. I have been bullied since preschool all the way up till my last year of highschool. I live in a neighborhood that is potentially african american/spanish in population and I am white. I have been a victim of bullying and racism for a long time. I also have a sister who is diagnosed with depressio...n and bipolar disorder, so I have been picked on for having the "crazy" sister. This is not a sob story, this was just me telling you a bit about myself and why I personally enjoyed what you talked about. If it is not too much trouble, I wrote something earlier today. It's nothing much, just a poem about depression and suicide. It is not my suicide note, for I am not suicidal, but it is something with a good message to it. At least I think so, and I was hoping to get some feedback from you
- Jimbob Walter G-Dizzlethere once was this kid named billy
growing up he acted real silly
always got picked on and teased in school
all because he didnt fit the description of cool
his clothes were plain with rips here and there
and his head was bald cuz he shaved his hair
everyday he went through the humiliation
yet he stood strong offering no retaliation
he'd get ambushed and jumped on his way home
just to get hit by his abusive dad; he was truly alone
till one day this young girl took notice of his pain
she was easy on the eyes with manners unfeigned
she tried to make friends, but he was too badly damaged
he was a giant wound, one that couldnt be bandaged
she tried and tried, yet her efforts went to waste
she had no idea of the decision billy faced
he suffered so much, he felt noone cared
he thought the girl was making fun, so making friends he never dared
see, the reason he always acted so cheeerful
was to hide the sadness and how much he was fearful
he refused to cry where others could see
why couldnt they just let him be
on the last day of school when he received his graduation page
he slowly ascended the steps to stand on stage
he looked out at everyone and plastered on a smile
didnt make a sound, just stood for a while
finally speaking, these were his words:
"you all laughed and teased and acted so tough
never once let up and thought enough is enough.
so i leave you today with not hatred in my heart
but complete forgiveness and a fresh start."
he then pulled out a gun and put it to his head
pulled the trigger, and before anyone knew it, he was dead.
no shouts or screams erupted from the crowd
but that one special girl cried so loud
everyone was mortified at the sight they beheld
for they knew it was their fault, this innocent boy was felled
he stood proud and strong till his graduation day
and finally found the courage to express what he had to say.
for everyone who read this and felt any ounce of remorse
that means you yourself have bullied and showed unecessary force
everyone was created equal noone better than the other
why must we hate...when we are sister and brother?

I am the smile and the sadness
I am the smile and the sadness...
Such is the elation, such is the madness.
New moons spin their dizzying tears,
And full moons erase my fears.
I am the smile and the sadness.
